Die Alpenziege stammt ursprünglich aus Frankreich und wurde 1922 in die USA gebracht, wo sie weiterentwickelt wurde. Die Rasse ist auch als French Alpine und Alpine Dairy Goat bekannt und in acht anerkannten Farben erhältlich: Cou Blanc, Cou Clair, Cou Noir, Sundgau, Pied, Chamoisee, zweifarbiger Chamoisee und gebrochener Chamoisee.
